Original, signed artwork

Acrylic on hand-stretched, gallery-wrapped canvas with a 1.5" depth
This painting is part of a Tiki Portrait Series, in which each work presents a tightly cropped view of a Polynesian pop icon inspired by the history of tiki culture. The use of strong linear elements and a flowing composition give each piece a distinctly modern, abstract feel.
It is based on a mug from the legendary Mainlander Tiki Bar and Restaurant in Clayton, Missouri. The Mainlander was known for going all-in on Polynesian fantasy, with grass shacks, bamboo-covered walls, a tiki fountain, and a dense collection of island-inspired décor that made the whole place feel like a transported tropical escape.
Outside, guests were greeted by another dramatic tiki fountain—designed by William Westenhaver and produced through his Witco company—which became the restaurant’s signature visual centerpiece. That same fountain served as the inspiration for the mug depicted in this painting, capturing a bit of The Mainlander’s bold, escapist spirit in ceramic form.
Please note that photos may not accurately reflect the scale of the work. The painting measures 24 x 36 x 1.5 inches.
